The incident resulted in the death of at least nine individuals and injuries to four others. Eyewitnesses disclosed that a car leaving a nearby hotel veered in the opposite direction, collided with two other vehicles, and then plowed through the crosswalk, striking several pedestrians.
The Police and Fire Department confirmed that six victims died at the scene while the other three succumbed to their injuries after suffering cardiac arrest upon arrival at the hospital. Among the injured, one is in critical condition while the other three have minor injuries. All of them have been transported to the nearest hospital in Jung Gu district for medical attention.
Law enforcement authorities apprehended two individuals – a 68-year-old driver of the vehicle and his 60-year-old female companion – both of whom were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Alcohol intoxication was ruled out as a factor, and an investigation into the accident’s causes is underway. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time on Monday, prompting a swift response from emergency services which dispatched nearly 40 vehicles and 140 personnel to aid the victims and clear debris from accident site.
