Alert: Possible Measles Exposure in Boston, New Hampshire – Public Health Commissioner Urges Vaccination and Precautions

NBC Boston reports that Health authorities issue warning about potential measles exposure in New Hampshire and Massachusetts

The Mass. Department of Public Health has issued an alert about a possible measles exposure from an international visitor. According to DPH, the individual in question traveled from Boston to Amsterdam on June 22 while infectious, using public transportation.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that the individual was in various areas in Hanover, NH between June 20-22. These locations include the Dartmouth College campus, the Hanover Inn, Hanover Scoops, and Lou’s Restaurant and Bakery. Measles is a highly contagious disease and symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes before developing a body rash. Anyone who shows these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider before visiting a healthcare facility.

Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein, MD, PhD emphasized the importance of vaccination in protecting against measles. He urged unvaccinated individuals to take precautions against the disease which has seen an increase in cases and outbreaks globally. It’s important for everyone to stay informed about potential exposures and to take necessary actions to protect themselves and others from getting sick.
