Alpaca Petting Zoo Highlights Community’s Emphasis on Mental Health at Thriving Together Event

Event raises awareness for mental health in the community

In the Greater Scranton Area, families gathered at the YMCA in Dunmore over the weekend for a special event called “Thriving Together”. This free community event was aimed at raising awareness and celebrating the organization’s well-being initiative known as “Mental health is wealth”.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the alpaca petting zoo, which helped to keep everyone in a calm state of mind. Haley Schaffer, an alpaca enthusiast, shared her thoughts on these emotional support animals, saying, “They’re very friendly like a little cuddle bud, just like your own dog at home, you just can’t have them at home all the time.”

Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a variety of family-friendly activities, including a giant dart board, bounce houses and even meeting the Wilkes-barre Scranton Mascot Tux. These activities were designed to engage the community in activities and practices that support mental and emotional health.

The “Thriving Together” program will continue to host events that aim to create a sense of community and provide resources for individuals to enhance their overall well-being and happiness. The program hopes to inspire people to take care of their mental health and see it as a valuable asset, just like physical health.
