18-year-old Archie Gray, the great-nephew of Leeds legend Eddie Gray, had signed a long-term deal with Leeds United last season. However, he has now made a move to Tottenham Hotspur for around £30m. In exchange, Tottenham sent defender Joe Rodon to Leeds in a deal worth about £10m.
The sale of Gray is expected to help Leeds comply with profit and sustainability rules following their loss in the Championship play-off final. This defeat led to the need to sell players in order to meet financial regulations. Gray had initially been going through a medical examination at Brentford but the bid was rejected due to payment structure disagreements.
Leeds reluctantly agreed to his transfer to Spurs to enhance their chances of promotion next season within the league’s financial regulations. Meanwhile, Wales international Joe Rodon has signed a four-year deal with Leeds after being on loan with the club last season.
