On Saturday, the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a phone call with Josep Borel, the Vice President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. During their conversation, they discussed a range of issues, with a focus on strengthening partnerships and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
One topic that was emphasized was the importance of deepening ties between Armenia and the European Union. They highlighted existing cooperation programs such as “Armenia’s Resilience and Growth” EU program, which was developed after a meeting in Brussels on April 5. They also discussed plans to implement a new partnership agenda in the near future. Mirzoyan stressed that they needed to make a final decision on starting a dialogue on liberalizing visas between Armenia and the EU.
In addition to discussing upcoming activities, Mirzoyan and Borel exchanged ideas on regional issues. The Foreign Minister informed Borel about recent developments regarding relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including border demarcation discussions and ongoing draft peace treaty negotiations. They referenced agreements reached in 1991 and the Alma-Ata Declaration, emphasizing the importance of continuing to work towards a final agreement based on these foundations.
The news agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia reported that other topics covered during their call included financial market violations in Saudi Arabia and the Women’s Champions League final.
