Beecher’s Historic Postseason Goal Marks New Era for Elmira Sports

Johnny Beecher looks back on his debut season in the NHL

Johnny Beecher, a native of Elmira, New York, completed his first season in the NHL with the Boston Bruins. Despite Boston’s loss to Florida in the playoffs, Beecher made history for Elmira sports by scoring his first postseason goal. Selected in the first round of the 2019 NHL draft by Boston, Beecher played a total of 52 games, scoring seven goals and three assists. He also had a 54.6% faceoff percentage and averaged 10.37 minutes of ice time per game.

Beecher was grateful for the support he received from Elmira and the Twin Tiers community as he played in Boston’s 100th year of professional hockey. He fondly remembers the excitement of opening night at TD Garden against the Chicago Blackhawks, where he was introduced to a sold-out crowd in a memorable ceremony.
