Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo Takes Action to Save Audi Brussels Jobs Amidst Uncertainty

Plan to Rescue Audi Brussels Under Development

In a bid to prevent the closure of Audi Brussels and safeguard the 3,000 jobs at the car factory, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo is taking decisive action. Following Audi’s decision to eliminate 371 temporary jobs in Vorst due to decreased demand for the Audi Q8 e-tron model, De Croo will convene a meeting with the government and Audi’s top management to explore solutions that will secure the future of the factory and its employees.

There are indications that a new model to replace the Q8 e-tron may be built in Mexico, which has led to uncertainty about the production of vehicles in Forest. To address this issue, De Croo plans to set up a task force comprising regional prime ministers and Audi’s leadership. The task force will explore options such as training support, subsidies, and energy cost reductions to prevent a closure of the factory.

The politicians are also considering providing guarantees to Audi through a ‘letter of intent’ even if a caretaker government is in place due to upcoming elections. The goal is to use all available resources to support Audi Brussels and its employees, ensuring the continuation of operations and job security. This collaborative effort between the government and Audi’s leadership aims to find a viable solution to the challenges facing the factory and its workforce.
