Former President Donald Trump and his allies are painting a distorted picture of a struggling American economy overrun by crime and drug-fueled immigrants, but the reality is much different.
Under President Joe Biden, the American economy is thriving, with high employment rates and the passing of important legislation like the CHIPS Act and infrastructure bills. Additionally, violent crime rates have decreased significantly since Trump’s presidency. However, despite this positive progress, both Republicans and Democrats seem uninterested or dismissive of these achievements.
The economy is often used as a proxy for deeper concerns and fears about American culture. Rapid changes in identity, relationships, work, faith, and truth have created unease for many in the country. It is crucial to approach these issues with empathy, understanding, and a willingness to compromise rather than resorting to demonization and conflict.
In order to move forward as a nation, we must come together at the peace table and find common ground.
