Bolivia Slams Argentina for ‘Reckless’ Coup Accusations, Calls President a Liar

Bolivia calls in the Argentine ambassador over Javier Milei’s comments on a “self-coup”

The government of Bolivia has expressed a strong rejection of the statements made by the Office of the President of Argentina, Javier Miley, who accused it of staging a coup attempt. In a press conference, Maria Nela Prada, the Minister of the Presidency and interim chancellor of Bolivia, summoned the ambassador of Argentina in Bolivia, Ramiro Tapia, to be present at Government headquarters.

In response to these accusations, the Arce Government strongly condemned the unfriendly and reckless statements made by the Argentine government regarding the military insurrection that took place last Wednesday. Former president Evo Morales questioned the veracity of these statements and called President Arce a liar.

The Office of the President of Argentina published a statement repudiating these false accusations made by Bolivia’s government. It also accused them of controlling all three branches of government and having over 200 political prisoners, including former interim president Jeanine Anez and opposition governor Luis Fernando Camacho. The Argentine government went on to claim that Bolivian democracy is in danger because socialist governments can lead to dictatorships and compared it to countries such as Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and North Korea.

The situation has sparked controversy and disagreement between the governments of Argentina and Bolivia over their interpretation of events. While Bolivia sees this as an attempted coup d’état against its democratic institutions, Argentina views it as part of an ongoing effort by socialist governments to undermine democracy in South America.
