Brazil Secures Hosting Rights for 2027 Women’s World Cup: A Historic Moment for South American Women’s Soccer

South America to make history as Brazil announced as host for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup

On Friday, during the annual FIFA Congress, Brazil was announced as the host of the 2027 Women’s World Cup, marking a historic moment for women’s soccer in South America. The victory came after a fierce competition with joint bids from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany. Brazil’s bid was praised for its commercial plan and purpose-built stadiums left over from the 2014 Men’s World Cup, ultimately securing them the win with 119 votes against 78 for the European entry.

Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation, expressed his confidence in delivering an exceptional Women’s World Cup and highlighted the significance of this achievement for South American women’s soccer. The vote was between Brazil and Europe after Mexico and the United States withdrew to focus on the 2031 tournament instead.

Despite facing strong opposition from Europe, Brazil’s success in securing hosting rights was attributed to their conviction and dedication rather than lobbying efforts. Valesca Araujo, bid operational manager, emphasized their goal of advancing women’s soccer in South America, which has immense potential but is still underdeveloped.

Overall, this victory marks a transformative moment for women’s soccer in the region and a significant achievement for South America as a whole. The Brazilian team is now focused on celebrating their win and preparing to host an unforgettable Women’s World Cup in 2027.
