Browns QB Deshaun Watson: Back on Track for Next Season After Injury Recovery

Deshaun Watson has positive outlook on rehab progress

Deshaun Watson, the Browns quarterback, recently threw a football for the first time since sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury. According to Browns General Manager Andrew Berry, Watson is on track to return for the start of the season, which Watson himself confirmed during a podcast interview with quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery. The quarterback expressed optimism about his progress and mentioned that he has ample time to increase his throwing sessions and that everything is moving smoothly according to his doctors and physical therapists.

While Watson did not disclose specific details about his rehab routine, Coach Kevin Stefanski suggested that he may be advanced enough to practice with the team’s receivers during organized team activities. Watson’s injury initially involved a micro tear in his right rotator cuff and was exacerbated by a fracture sustained during a game against the Ravens. He underwent surgery to address the fracture in November, and his recovery has been ongoing.

Since joining the Browns, Watson has faced significant setbacks due to injury, limiting his playing time to just 12 out of 34 games. During his absence last season, Joe Flacco stepped in as quarterback and led the team to the playoffs. With Flacco moving on to the Colts, the Browns signed Jameis Winston as Watson’s backup, emphasizing the team’s commitment to ensuring depth and stability at the quarterback position.

During his podcast interview with Avery, Watson shared details about how he has been working hard every day towards getting back on track for next season. He spoke about how he has increased his throwing sessions significantly and feels confident about where he stands at this point.

Berry also spoke about how impressed he is with Watson’s progress so far and expressed hope that he would be able to play all 16 games this upcoming season. “Deshaun is making great strides in his rehabilitation process,” Berry said in an interview with reporters.

Overall, it seems like everything is going smoothly for Watson as he prepares for next season. With Jameis Winston as his backup and Coach Kevin Stefanski by his side, there is no doubt that Deshaun will be ready when it counts come September.
