The Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School has acquired the former Medaille University campus in Buffalo, New York. The 14-acre campus was purchased by Charter Schools Development Corporation (CSDC), with BuffSci leasing it from CSDC. Mark Zeizel, Senior Vice President of Real Estate Investments and Strategy at CSDC, expressed support for BuffSci’s vision and the positive impact the campus will have on the community.
In response to the closure of Medaille University in August 2023 due to financial instability and termination of a merger with Trocaire College, students and faculty expressed their reactions to the news. Dr. Joseph Polat, Executive Director of Buffalo Academy of Science Charter Schools, highlighted the significance of moving BuffSci programs to the former Medaille Campus. He emphasized the opportunity to provide academic experiences that prepare students for college and high-potential careers, citing the inspiring setting of a university campus as ideal for future generations.
The acquisition of this campus by BuffSci represents a significant opportunity for both institutions. This transformation signals a new chapter for both institutions as they work together to provide enhanced educational experiences for students and contribute positively to the local community’s development. By fulfilling its mission of preparing students for academic success and future career prospects, BuffSci is set to play an important role in shaping the future leaders of tomorrow.
