Chasing the Waves: A Look at Trilogy: New Wave, the Epic Surfing Movie Releasing in September

Top Ranked U.S. Surfer Griffin Colapinto Announces New Movie Collaboration with Ethan Ewing, Younger Brother Joins Top 10 Tour Riders

In September, a new surfing movie called Trilogy: New Wave is set to hit theaters, featuring a star-studded cast that includes reigning World Surf League (WSL) champion Gabriel Medina. Alongside Medina, the film also features Australian surfer Ethan Ewing and Hawaiian Seth Moniz.

The movie is directed by veteran filmmaker Taylor Steele and follows the trio on a “dream quest” across various locations including Indonesia, Peru, South Africa, and Tahiti. The trailer for the film highlights the intense pressure faced by the surfers on the WST tour as they prepare for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

Despite their competitive rivalries in competition, Ewing and Moniz put aside their differences to discover the power of friendship in achieving success both in and out of the water. A quote from Colapinto in the trailer reveals his competitive spirit, stating, “I want everyone to surf really good, and I want to surf a little bit better.” This sentiment captures the drive and determination that has propelled Colapinto to the top of the surfing world.

Trilogy: New Wave is set to be released just as surfing continues its evolution from a countercultural activity to a mainstream Olympic sport. As such, this new movie marks an exciting chapter in surfing history. With its stunning visuals and inspiring message about friendship and perseverance, Trilogy: New Wave is sure to leave audiences feeling fired up for both competition and life beyond it.
