Chicago Crime Spree: Robbers Target Multiple Coffee Shops, Gas Stations in Early Morning Heist

A group of robbers targeted several coffee shops and gas stations in Chicago early Thursday morning, stealing cash in under an hour. No one was injured during the robberies, but one business in the West Loop had to close for the day following the incidents.

The robbery crew struck first at a Dunkin’ Donuts at 901 W. Washington Blvd. at 5:57 a.m., taking cash from the registers and from a 21-year-old man who was inside. This was just one of several locations that were targeted by the robbers, who had already been robbing businesses for 30 minutes before hitting this particular Dunkin’ Donuts.

Prior to this, at 5:45 a.m., the robbers targeted a Starbucks at 40 N. Clinton St., near the Ogilvie Transportation Center. They broke in through the front door and stole cash from inside, forcing the Starbucks to close temporarily. Other businesses hit by the crew included Dunkin’ Donuts locations at 1519 W. Madison St. and 500 W. Roosevelt Rd., as well as a business on West Jackson Boulevard and West Grenshaw Street.

The last business targeted was a Circle K convenience store at 3601 N. Western Ave., located far away from the other crime scenes. An employee reported that five men, three of whom were armed, stole $47 from the register before fleeing in a silver Nissan sedan
