Coller Capital: London-based Secondaries Firm Expands Tech Platform, Hires Additional Data Scientist

Coller aims to grow its internal data science team

Coller Capital, a leading secondaries firm in the market, is expanding its tech platform and seeking to hire an additional data scientist. The position is based in London and involves working with data, machine learning, and software engineers, as well as investment professionals to develop data-driven private equity tools. Key responsibilities include implementing predictive models, conducting quantitative analysis, and creating tools to impact multi-million dollar deals.

Coller Capital’s data science team is led by principal Josh Lowe, who was appointed in 2020. There are currently three other data scientists at the firm. The departure of former data scientist Harry Vander Elst in 2020 led to the launch of RockSling Analytics and his subsequent role as a partner at tech-focused secondaries firm Clipway. The new data scientist position is not a direct replacement for Vander Elst.

The firm has a long history of innovation in private markets secondaries and utilizes over 30 years of proprietary data in its investment process. The addition of a new data scientist reflects the company’s commitment to expanding its team and investing in talent across the board.

The secondaries industry has been incorporating data science and artificial intelligence to improve efficiency and speed, as previously reported by Secondaries Investor. These tools can provide buyers with a competitive advantage, streamline LP secondaries sales, and bring secondaries market transactions closer to real-time, similar to trading public market securities over-the-counter.
