Colts Extend DeForest Buckner’s Contract through 2026: Positioned for Success in 2024

The Indianapolis Colts have been busy re-signing key players from their 2023 squad during the offseason, and they have recently extended the contract of defensive lineman DeForest Buckner. The team made the announcement on Monday morning without revealing any specific details about the extension, but multiple reports suggest that Buckner will be paid $46 million to remain with the team for another two years, extending his contract through 2026.

Buckner, who is 30 years old and entering his ninth NFL season, has been an integral part of the Colts’ defense since joining the team in 2020 through a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. Over his career, he has amassed impressive statistics, including 166 solo tackles, 32.5 sacks, 42 tackles for loss, 87 QB hits, and six forced fumbles. Buckner has also been selected to three Pro Bowls.

The Colts have re-signed several other key players from the 2023 squad, bringing the total to ten. Despite finishing the previous season with a 9-8 record, head coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard are optimistic about the team’s potential for the upcoming season. In particular, they are excited about the return of quarterback Anthony Richardson, who missed most of the previous season due to a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. Richardson was selected fourth overall in the 2023 draft and is expected to play a big role in leading the Colts to success next year.

By securing key players like Buckner along with wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and cornerback Kenny Moore, the Colts are positioning themselves for a successful 2024 campaign. The team’s decision to retain familiar faces reflects their commitment to building continuity and chemistry among their roster for next season.

Overall, this move by Indianapolis Colts shows that they value their star player and want him on their roster for another two years. They believe that with his talent and leadership skills on defense along with Richardson’s return at quarterback they can make it back to playoffs next year or even win another Super Bowl ring if everything goes well
