Comprehensive Hepatitis C Treatment Program Launched by Central Michigan District Health Department to Improve Health and Well-Being of Mid-Michigan Community

New Hepatitis C Treatment Program Launched by the Health Department – The Morning Sun

The Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) recently launched a hepatitis C treatment program to better serve the mid-Michigan area. This comprehensive care program includes medication, monitoring, and support services to help individuals effectively manage their condition. Connie Lance, community health supervisor at CMDHD, emphasizes the importance of this program in addressing the rising burden of hepatitis C in Michigan.

Hepatitis C is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and can lead to serious health complications if left untreated, such as liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Lance stresses that hepatitis C is curable and early detection and treatment can prevent these complications. Healthcare providers can refer patients, while individuals can also self-refer for treatment through forms available on the CMDHD website.

For those without insurance, CMDHD offers resources to assist with the cost of treatment as the program bills insurance for services. Additionally, CMDHD provides testing for hepatitis C for those who are unsure of their status. To schedule a testing appointment, individuals can contact the CMDHD Community Health division at 989-314-7570. This new program aims to make it easier for individuals to access necessary care and improve their overall health and well-being.
