Hepatitis C is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and can lead to serious health complications if left untreated, such as liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Lance stresses that hepatitis C is curable and early detection and treatment can prevent these complications. Healthcare providers can refer patients, while individuals can also self-refer for treatment through forms available on the CMDHD website.
For those without insurance, CMDHD offers resources to assist with the cost of treatment as the program bills insurance for services. Additionally, CMDHD provides testing for hepatitis C for those who are unsure of their status.
