Denver International Airport Uses Face Recognition Technology for Speedy Security Screenings During Busiest Week Ever

Denver International Airport is gearing up for their busiest holiday week on record with the implementation of face recognition technology at security screenings. On June 30, over 86,000 people were screened at the airport, making it their fourth busiest day.

CBS Colorado’s First Alert Traffic Tracker Reporter Brian Sherrod recently toured the airport with TSA officials to showcase the technology being used to expedite the screening process. Face recognition machines scan government IDs for basic information such as name and age, revealing boarding information within 10 seconds. Denver International Airport is one of the first in the country to implement this technology.

Despite the advancements in technology, common mistakes such as not having IDs readily available and carrying prohibited items can still lead to delays. Lorie Dankers, a spokeswoman for TSA Colorado, emphasized the importance of allowing ample time for unexpected events during travel to avoid feeling rushed or stressed.

During this busy travel period starting on June 28 and lasting until July 8, the TSA anticipates an average of 85,000 passengers per day at Denver International Airport. Travelers are advised to check their flight status before arriving and plan to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight to ensure a smooth travel experience.
