Gardening can bring numerous benefits for individuals with disabilities, and a webinar hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and OneOp is set to explore this topic in depth. The upcoming May 8 webinar will focus on the advantages of gardening for people with disabilities and how gardens can offer therapeutic benefits such as physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being.
Rachel Brauner, an AgriLife Extension program specialist in Bryan-College Station, will lead the webinar and discuss how being in a garden can benefit individuals with disabilities. Xuan “Jade” Wu, Ph.D., an AgriLife Extension specialist and assistant professor in the Family and Community Health unit, will be the featured speaker at the webinar.
The session will delve into key topics such as selecting sensory elements and plants that cater to specific disabilities, principles for making gardens accessible to individuals with varying abilities, and creating safe and inviting gardens for those with disabilities. Participants can earn up to one continuing education unit for many professional programs by attending the webinar.
Registration is available at https://tx.ag/OneOpGardening and participants will receive an email with instructions on how to join the webinar after signing up. If needed, the webinar can also be viewed on YouTube Live with technical support available by contacting OneOp at contact@oneop.org. More information about earning continuing education units can be found on the OneOp website.
