On Wednesday night, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays with an 8-2 win. The game was marred by a benches-clearing brawl, which led to players being ejected from the match. However, amidst the chaos, there was a heartwarming moment involving Tyler Black.
Tyler Black is a highly regarded prospect in Major League Baseball and was called up by the Brewers just prior to Tuesday’s game. Although he didn’t start against the Rays, he quickly entered the game after catcher Gary Sánchez suffered a hamstring injury in the first inning. During his first at-bat, Black hit a double, and in his second plate appearance in the fifth inning, with the Brewers leading 6-1, he provided a memorable moment for his family.
Bally Sports Wisconsin reporter Sophia Minnaert was interviewing Black’s father, Rod Black, during the game. Rod Black is a Canadian broadcaster with an extensive career covering various sports such as the Olympics, Canadian Football League games and Toronto Blue Jays games. When Tyler came up to bat, Rod Black took over play-by-play commentary for his son’s second hit in the big leagues. It turned out to be a special occasion as he got to call his son’s second hit on national TV! Rod also gave a shoutout to his wife Nancy during his broadcast making it a great day out for the Black family.
The Black family had been vacationing in Cancun but immediately flew back to Milwaukee once Tyler received his call up. Tyler finished the game with an impressive 2-for-4 record and one run scored during Milwaukee’s victory over Tampa Bay.
