Dr. Herbie Duber named San Juan County’s acting Health Officer: Leading the way to a healthier community

Interim Health Officer appointed by County as search for permanent replacement begins

Dr. Herbie Duber has been appointed as the acting Health Officer for San Juan County while they search for a permanent replacement. Currently, he serves as the Regional Medical Officer for Northwest Washington at the Washington State Department of Health, where he helps develop healthcare policy and programs across the state. With his extensive medical experience, Councilmember Cindy Wolf feels confident in his appointment and believes he will serve the community well.

As the County’s Health Officer, Dr. Duber will be responsible for working with local organizations like schools and medical centers to ensure the health and safety of residents. He will lead outreach programs, provide counseling, and educate the community on various health topics. While serving as the acting Health Officer, Dr. Duber will help maintain the health and wellness of the county until a permanent replacement is found.

Council Chair Jane Fuller expressed her gratitude for having Dr. Duber in the interim position and believes he will do an excellent job in the role. The outgoing Health Officer, Dr. Frank James, announced his resignation after 31 years of service at a recent Board of Health meeting. Dr. James’s last day will be on April 20, and his years of dedication will be recognized at a later date. The County looks forward to finding a suitable permanent replacement under Dr. Duber’s leadership in the meantime.

Druber’s appointment as Acting Health Officer has been welcomed by Councilmember Cindy Wolf who believes that his extensive medical experience makes him well-suited for this role.

As Acting Health Officer, Duber’s responsibilities include working closely with local organizations to ensure that residents are safe and healthy.

Duber’s leadership skills have been recognized by Council Chair Jane Fuller who expressed her gratitude for having him in this interim position.

The outgoing Health Officer, Dr Frank James has served San Juan County for over 31 years before announcing his resignation at a recent Board of Health meeting.

The end date for James’ tenure is April 20th when his years of service will be recognized.

The County is currently searching for a permanent replacement while Duber serves as Acting Health Officer until one is found under his leadership style.
