Elisa’s Q1 Results: Despite Challenges, Telecom Operator Reports On-Target EBITDA and Mobile Service Growth

At the start of the year, Elisa’s revenue growth decelerated – The comparable result remained steady

Elisa, a leading telecom operator in Finland, has announced its first quarter results, reporting an operating profit of 112 million euros on a turnover of 535 million euros for the January–March period. Although the company fell short of the average operating profit forecast of 117 million euros and turnover forecast of 543 million euros, its results were in line with expectations from analysts.

Compared to the previous year, Elisa’s comparable EBITDA increased by 7 million euros to 190 million euros, and comparable operating profit increased by 5 million euros to 122 million euros. Despite geopolitical and macroeconomic challenges, Elisa’s mobile service turnover grew by 5.8 percent in the quarter to 249 million euros.

Elisa’s new CEO, Topi Manner, commented on the results, noting that despite a decrease in turnover due to sales of businesses and other factors, comparable EBITDA improved thanks to growth in mobile service revenue and efficiency measures. The company continues to focus on increasing productivity through automation and data analytics in various processes.

Looking ahead, Elisa has instructed that turnover and comparable EBITDA should be at the level of the comparison period or slightly higher in 2024. The company acknowledges uncertainty factors related to general economic development, including global conflicts, inflation, energy prices, and supply chain challenges. Competition in the Finnish telecommunications market remains intense.

Despite these challenges, Elisa is committed to improving customer satisfaction and efficiency while reducing costs through quality improvement efforts. This approach will continue to drive its success in the future as it seeks to maintain its position as a leader in the Finnish telecommunications market.
