Encinitas Fire Department Acquires Cutting-Edge Drones for Beach Rescues

Encinitas has recently received a new piece of fire and lifeguard rescue equipment that has beachgoers excited. The Encinitas Fire Department and Marine Safety Division have acquired one larger drone and two smaller drones that will be used for land and sea rescues. These drones have already proven to be beneficial in rescue situations this year, according to fire officials.

The equipment includes a regular camera, thermal camera, and PA system all in one. This allows firefighters to see clearly in situations where they might not be able to do so, such as in a fire hotspot or when someone is stranded in the water. The thermal imaging cameras on the drones allow firefighters to locate victims more efficiently, making it easier for them to respond quickly.

Training is underway for most of the fire department personnel on how to use the drones effectively. This will enable a quicker response time in emergency situations. Encinitas Fire Chief Josh Gordon expressed his confidence in the new equipment, stating that it will greatly enhance the department’s ability to carry out successful rescues.
