England’s Goalie Forced to Withdraw, Lionesses Must Regroup for Euro 2025 Qualifier Against France

Earps pulls out of England squad due to hip injury

England’s goalkeeper Mary Earps has been forced to withdraw from the squad for Tuesday’s Euro 2025 qualifier against France due to a hip injury. The 31-year-old was replaced by Hannah Hampton from Chelsea and later seen leaving the stadium on crutches. Despite this setback, England has confirmed that Earps’ injury is not too serious. Birmingham City’s Lucy Thomas has been called up to the squad as a replacement for the upcoming game in France.

This comes after England’s first defeat in European qualifying since 2002, as they currently sit third in League A Group 3 with four points. Manager Sarina Wiegman’s side is aiming to defend their crown at Euro 2025, with matches against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden to follow their trip to France. The Lionesses will need to finish in the top two positions in the group to secure automatic qualification for next summer’s tournament in Switzerland. The team is focused on regrouping and putting in strong performances moving forward.
