In 2022, Texas reported the highest number of law enforcement suicides in the entire nation, with 16 officer lives being lost. This highlights the importance of providing mental health resources to those who need them most.
The Blue Chip Program was first introduced in North Texas following a mass shooting incident at the Allen outlets in 2023. It was designed to provide support for police officers across the region and has been well-received by leaders in the area.
Now, the program is set to expand statewide, making it possible for all law enforcement officers in Texas to access its services. By doing so, Texas will become the only state in the country to offer both a law enforcement peer support network and an anonymous and cost-free mental health services program.
