Exploring AI and Health Informatics: Mercer’s Annual Informatics Day

AI and health informatics become focal points at Informatics Day in 2024.

Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement (COPA) will be hosting its sixth annual Informatics Day on April 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Mercer’s Atlanta campus in the Administration and Conference Center, Room 190. This year’s event will focus on Artificial Intelligence and Health Informatics, providing industry professionals and students with valuable networking opportunities to explore potential career pathways in the field of informatics.

Dr. Awatef A. Ben Ramadan, assistant professor of health informatics and the event organizer, expressed excitement about the event as an opportunity for industry professionals to connect with informatics students and share insights about career prospects in the field. “Informatics Day is an excellent platform for students to gain insights into the informatics field and explore potential career pathways,” said Dr. Ben Ramadan.

The event is organized by COPA’s Department of Informatics and Mathematics with the goal of facilitating networking opportunities between students and professionals in the informatics field. Dr. Feng Liu, professor of informatics and chair of the informatics and mathematics department, highlighted the department’s commitment to using technology to benefit the community and improve quality of life: “Our department aims to use technology to make a positive impact on society.”

The event will feature presentations from a variety of industry professionals including a Cybersecurity Specialist/ Business Information Security Officer, a Robotic Software Engineer, an FBI Agent, and three outstanding Mercer informatics alumni who have successfully navigated their careers in this exciting field after graduating from Mercer’s College of Professional Advancement (COPA). Representatives from the Mercer Center for Career and Professional Development as well as the graduate and undergraduate admission offices will also be present at the event to provide information about potential career paths available through COPA programs.

Informatics Day is a free event open to Mercer faculty, current students, prospective students, making it accessible for everyone interested in exploring this exciting field further.
