Vietnam’s Startup Ecosystem: A Comprehensive Overview

In April 2024, the Institute for Entrepreneurship Research within the National Startup Association released the National Startup Index Report. This report provides a comprehensive overview of the startup ecosystem in Vietnam, focusing on the development trends of science and technology-based businesses. The report was introduced during a ceremony to launch the National Startup Promotion Index Framework Report and establish the Startup Research Institute.

The report consists of five parts, exploring global startup trends in 2024 and setting national startup criteria. It also introduces localities, industries, and noteworthy faces within the startup community. Twelve standards have been identified for examining and calculating the startup index, involving advice from various global startup monitoring bodies, independent research institutes, universities, and experts from countries like the US, UK, and Korea.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Minh emphasized the importance of businesses in driving socio-economic development through science, technology, and innovation. He highlighted the challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and stressed the need for Vietnamese businesses to adapt quickly to new technology and innovation. The Ministry of Science and Technology is committed to supporting innovative startups in accessing resources and building standards for competitiveness and intellectual property. The establishment of the Startup Research Institute aligns with this mission, supporting startups based on science and technology to thrive in the evolving business landscape.
