Falcons Strengthen Defensive Line, but Still Unclear about Michael Penix Jr’s Signing Status; Hayden Hurst released from the Team

Brandon Dorlus, fourth-round pick, signs with Falcons

In 2024, the Falcons drafted quarterback Michael Penix Jr. However, he is the only one among their draftees who has not yet signed with the team. On Thursday, the NFL’s daily transaction report announced that the Falcons have signed fourth-round defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus to a four-year deal. Dorlus, who played at Oregon for five seasons, was selected after making two All-Pac 12 teams during his college career. He started 40 games over the last three seasons and recorded an impressive 89 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and 12 passes defended during that time.

The Falcons also added defensive linemen Ruke Orhorhoro in the second round and Zion Logue in the sixth round during the 2024 draft. With these additions to their roster, they are looking to strengthen their defensive line for the upcoming season. However, it remains uncertain when Penix Jr. will sign with the team and join his fellow draftees in preparing for next year’s season. We will have to wait and see how the rest of offseason unfolds for the Falcons as they continue to build their roster for the 2024 season.

In other news, on Wednesday, tight end Hayden Hurst became a free agent after being released by Atlanta. The Falcons had originally signed Hurst in March but decided to cut him loose after he refused to take a pay cut despite his declining performance on field.

Overall, it’s been a busy offseason for the Falcons as they try to rebuild their roster and get ready for next season’s challenges. It remains to be seen what other moves they will make before training camp begins in late July.

As we continue to monitor this situation closely, we can expect more updates on both Michael Penix Jr.’s status with the team and any other changes that may occur in Atlanta’s roster over the coming weeks leading up to training camp.
