The Chargers have announced the signing of former NFL player Tony Jefferson, who is making a return to the league after sitting out the 2023 season. Jefferson, 32, is a safety who entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Cardinals in 2013 and played four seasons with them before moving to the Ravens in 2017 as a free agent. He spent three seasons in Baltimore before sitting out the 2020 season.
After a brief stint in San Francisco and another short stay in Baltimore, Jefferson played for the Giants in 2022. Initially planning to retire and pursue a career in scouting, Jefferson had a change of heart and decided he still has something left to give on the field. Although he will face competition for a spot on the Chargers’ roster during training camp, the team is giving him that opportunity to prove himself.
