Fortum and Jyväskylä Join Forces to Build a New Data Center Complex in Finland

The city of Jyväskylä and Fortum have teamed up to develop a data center complex in the Seppälänkanka area, covering approximately 20 hectares. As part of the agreement, Fortum will be responsible for attracting potential data center operators who will invest in the project. The city estimates that the complex will create job opportunities for 150-200 individuals.

Fortum’s Business Director, Vesa Maso, emphasized several factors that make Jyväskylä an ideal location for this project. These include the availability of a skilled workforce from nearby universities and the city’s commitment to increasing carbon-neutral energy production. Additionally, Jyväskylä has a reliable electricity grid and an established district heating network.

This project is not Fortum’s first venture into developing data centers in Finland. The company has successfully developed similar areas in Espoo and Kirkkonummi as part of the Espoo Clean Heat project in collaboration with Microsoft. This partnership between Fortum and the city of Jyväskylä is expected to bring economic growth and innovation to the area, benefiting both the local community and businesses involved.
