From Amighetti’s Bread to Rigazzi’s Fishbowls: St. Louis Landmarks Showcase Beloved Food Businesses

In St. Louis, long-standing food businesses are showcased in the Landmark series of Sauce Magazine. These businesses have rich legacies and are beloved by locals. Here are some of the featured businesses:

Amighetti’s has returned to its original neighborhood after a four-year hiatus. The bakery and sandwich shop has been around since World War I and is known for its delicious bread. The new location is at 5390 Southwest Ave., just a mile from the old spot.

Cunetto House of Pasta is an Italian restaurant that has been a staple on Magnolia Ave since 1974. Brothers Vince and Joe Cunetto opened it and it’s known for its mountain of red sauce pasta dishes and lively atmosphere.

Vitale’s Bakery on the Hill is a fourth-generation family business that has stood the test of time. It has passed down its traditions and recipes through generations, showcasing the essence of family-run businesses.

Rigazzi’s has been a part of the Hill neighborhood for almost 70 years, under new ownership, the restaurant continues to thrive while maintaining its signature frozen fishbowls that customers love. The owners, Corey Christanell and Donn Ganim, are dedicated to preserving the essence of Rigazzi’s.

Failoni’s Restaurant and Bar in Dogtown has been a family-run establishment since it was opened by Alex and Rose Failoni in 1916. It remains in the same building throughout its history, offering quality Italian food to its patrons.
