From Construction Engineer to Defense Minister and now Secretary of Russia’s Security Council: The Journey of General Sergey Shoigu.

Born in Chadan, Tuva Republic of Russia on May 21, 1955, Sergey Shoigu’s father was a successful politician and his mother moved to Tuva from Ukraine. He studied civil engineering and began working at various construction companies in the late 1980s. In 1990, he was appointed as vice chairman of the State Committee on Architecture and Construction.

Shoigu’s political journey continued to rise when he became chairman of the Russian rescue agency in 1991. Despite lacking experience in handling conflicts or natural disasters, Shoigu played crucial roles in various armed conflicts and crisis situations over the years, earning accolades and promotions within the Russian government. However, he faced a major setback during Russia’s campaign in Ukraine in 2022 when he formulated a strategy for swift victory but encountered numerous obstacles and setbacks during the conflict. This failure led to a decline in his reputation and strained his relationship with President Putin.

In June 2023, there was an attempt to overthrow Shoigu by a former associate, but the coup failed, and the instigator perished in a plane crash shortly after. Subsequently, Mr. Shoigu faced further challenges when one of his close aides was arrested for corruption, casting a shadow over his leadership. President Putin then transferred him to the Russian Security Council as secretary general, signaling a new phase in Shoigu’s political career as he continues to work towards ensuring national security and protecting Russian citizens from threats both at home and abroad.

Overall, Sergey Shoigu has had quite an impressive career trajectory as he rose from construction engineer to Defense Minister before being appointed Secretary of the Russian Security Council by President Putin. While he faced some setbacks along the way such as failures during Russia’s campaign in Ukraine which led to damage to his reputation; he remains committed to serving his country through diplomacy and effective leadership skills that are necessary for maintaining peace and stability within its borders.

Andrey Belousov is taking over as Defense Minister following General Sergey Shoigu’s appointment as Secretary of Russia’s Security Council on May 12th by President Putin.

Shoigu’s political journey began as an engineer before moving up through politics until becoming Russia’s Defense Minister for twelve years.

However on May 12th President Putin signed a decree appointing General Sergey Shoigu as Secretary of Russia’s Security Council with Andrey Belousov taking over as Defense Minister.

Born on May 21st, 1955 Sergey graduated Civil Engineering degree from Tula Polytechnic Institute (now Tula State University)
