From Detection to Recovery: Early Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis Saves Life with Timely Treatment

Identifying Rectal Cancer Through Abdominal Pain Symptoms

On April 1, a 58-year-old man named Mr. Liem underwent a general examination by an endoscopy doctor after experiencing abdominal discomfort. The doctor diagnosed him with early-stage rectal cancer after examining his digestion. Further tests including intestinal endoscopy, MRI, and CT scans at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City revealed a 1.2×1.1 cm lesion located 10 cm from the anal edge in the descending colon, as well as two polyps in the descending colon and one polyp in the hepatic flexure colon.

Thanks to the early detection of his condition, Mr. Liem was able to avoid the risk of cancer progression and receive timely treatment. Dr. Do Minh Hung, Director of the Center for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Surgery at Tam Anh General Hospital recommended that Mr. Liem undergo surgery to remove the rectal tumor in order to prevent it from spreading further. The surgery involved endoscopic removal of three colorectal polyps and a transanal laparoscopic surgery to remove the rectal tumor, which was located quite far from the anus.

After recovering well from his surgery, Mr. Liem was discharged from the hospital after five days and will continue to be monitored with regular health checks and colonoscopies to ensure that his disease does not progress further. Dr. Hung emphasized that early detection is key when it comes to successful treatment and survival rates for colorectal cancer patients.

To reduce your risk of developing colorectal cancer, Dr. Hung recommends regular health checks and endoscopies for individuals who are at high risk or have any symptoms such as digestive issues, bloody stools, weight loss, or fatigue.

In summary, early detection can greatly increase your chances of successful treatment and survival for colorectal cancer patients like Mr. Liem’s case where prompt medical attention helped him avoid further complications and recovery was smooth due to timely intervention by Dr Hung’s team at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City
