From France to Israel: Moving Beyond Advocacy Amid Anti-Semitism

They Tried to Run Us Over Near the Synagogue – A Situation Never Before Seen Here

During a recent conference, we spoke with several individuals who expressed their reasons for considering moving to Israel. For them, the rise in anti-Semitism is a driving factor behind their decision. Many feel that by immigrating to Israel, they can show solidarity towards the country during challenging times. October 7 has become a significant date for many who had previously hesitated but are now ready to take action and move to Israel.

Emmanuel Zion, director of the agency, highlighted the strong Zionist community in France and the increasing identification with Israel among its members. Some members feel the need to take action beyond advocacy efforts and donations, prompting them to consider immigration as a way to show tangible support to Israel.

In a conversation with doctors attending the conference in Paris, Dr. Marciano discussed his rationale for considering moving to Israel. Despite not being religious, he emphasized the importance of being in Israel as a place where Jews belong. Dr. Feld also expressed similar sentiments, believing that Israel offers a sense of security that is unmatched in other parts of the world.

Dr. Cohen shared his unease with the growing anti-Semitism in Paris, noting instances where he felt unsafe wearing a kippah in public. The rise in security measures around synagogues and universities further heightened concerns among the Jewish community in France. Dr. Shikli also made the decision to move to Israel due to the worsening anti-Semitic atmosphere in Paris.

The Israeli government recognized a need for skilled professionals and has taken steps to facilitate the immigration process for doctors and their families. Organizations like “Nefesh Benefesh” are working with medical professionals to ease the transition to Israel and provide support during the absorption period.

With more families considering Israel as their future home, there is optimism and readiness among those willing to contribute positively towards its development.

As such, many are taking action beyond advocacy efforts and donations by moving from France or other countries where anti-Semitism is becoming increasingly prevalent into one that provides a sense of belonging and safety for Jews worldwide.
