From Shopping Mall to Industrial Hub: Akron’s Chapel Hill Mall Reborn as Business Park

In recent years, the former Chapel Hill Mall in Akron has been reimagined as a business park. This transformation was made possible by the acquisition of the complex by Industrial Commercial Properties and Storage of America, two prominent real estate companies in the area. The mall, located on Brittain Road, Buchholzer Boulevard, Howe and Independence avenues, is now an impressive 900,000 square feet in size and has been transformed into a modern industrial and commercial space.

ICP now owns a majority of the complex at 2000 Brittain Road, which consists of 715,000 square feet spread over 60 acres of land. Storage of America has also acquired a portion of the former mall, with a building spanning 169,000 square feet that was formerly occupied by Macy’s. Additionally, Storage of America owns 8 acres of land within the business park.

Despite being vacant for several years following its closure in 2021, the redevelopment efforts have brought new life to the area. Currently, there is approximately 40,826 square feet of space available for lease in the business park. Four new businesses have already moved into the complex since its transformation began in earnest in 2019.

The repurposing of this iconic shopping center into an industrial hub represents a major investment from ICP and Storage of America alike. With its prime location and ample space for growth and expansion, this vibrant business park is poised to become a major economic driver in Akron for years to come.
