From the Kings’ Throne: Redesigning a Legendary Logo for the 21st Century

Los Angeles Kings Unveil New Logo Reflecting the Wayne Gretzky Era

The Los Angeles Kings recently unveiled a new logo, giving fans a glimpse of the nostalgia-inspired design. This updated logo is a modernized version of the classic logo worn by the Kings in the 90s, closely associated with hockey legend Wayne Gretzky’s tenure with the team. The design reflects elements from the Kings’ history, including the crown design used when the team first joined the NHL in 1967.

The new logo features a fresh crown design, replacing the old 90s crown, with updated angles and fonts for a modern look. The team decided to stick to a black-gray-white color palette, departing from the purple and yellow colors used from 1967 to 1988. Additionally, two alternate logos pay homage to the original Kings logo with a “kick K” design.

According to Kings COO Kelly Cheeseman, the idea for the updated 90s logo came after seeing fan excitement over throwback jerseys worn in recent years. The team noticed that retro jerseys were popular among fans and players alike and decided to explore refreshing their branding for merchandising purposes. This decision was influenced by fan and player enthusiasm over Gretzky-era jersey styles, leading to the development of this new logo.

While details about next season’s jerseys have not been disclosed yet, fans can expect more updates in the near future as the Kings continue to evolve their branding and merchandise.
