A Gabriola Island chicken named Lacy has earned a new Guinness World Record by identifying six letters, numbers, and colors in just one minute. Emily Carrington, the owner of the chickens, bought five Hyline chickens last year to produce eggs and started training them to identify magnetic letters and numbers. The chickens were trained to peck only at the specific number or letter that Carrington taught them, ignoring all others.
Inspired by her successful training of the chickens, Carrington decided to attempt the Guinness World Records title for the most tricks performed by a chicken in one minute. Lacy, one of the chickens, excelled in the challenge and correctly identified six different letters, numbers, and colors within the time limit.
The impressive display of skill led to the creation of a new category by Guinness World Records specifically for Lacy. This highlights her intelligence and shows that animals are capable of surprising feats. Carrington is thrilled with this accomplishment and believes it will encourage people to recognize the potential of animals. She documents her chicken training on her YouTube channel called “The Thinking Chicken.”
