Italy’s Video Game Market Booms in 2023

In 2023, the video game market in Italy experienced a remarkable surge in growth, reaching an impressive value of 2.3 billion euros with a 5% increase compared to the previous year. This information was presented in the report “Video Games in Italy in 2023” published by IIDEA. Italy has now emerged as one of the top five European markets in the gaming sector, boasting an astonishing 13 million players across all gaming devices, representing approximately 31% of the Italian population aged 6 to 64.

Italian gamers are predominantly men, totaling 8 million (61%) with an average age of 30. Female gamers make up 4.9 million (38%) with an average age of 31. Interestingly, for the first time in history, there were also reported to be around 0.1 million people who identified as neither women nor men within this demographic.

Mobile devices have been found to be the most popular among gamers in Italy, with around 9.2 million users primarily playing Brain/Puzzle, Trivia and Role Playing/Strategy games. Consoles follow closely behind with about 5.6 million gamers focusing on Sports, Racing and Shooter genres respectively. PCs have also gained traction with around 4.6 million gamers who prefer Strategy Shooter and Sports titles over others. On average, Italian gamers play for approximately six hours per week – a decrease from the previous year – likely due to increased post-pandemic activities resuming again.

In terms of hardware sales within the gaming industry in Italy during this year saw a significant increase of no less than 63%, reaching a value of nearly half a billion euros alone! Accessories sales also rose by around 46% to about €178m too! Despite this being just one segment within it all – software remains by far the largest part of the market worth roughly €1 billion euros or about seven out of every ten dollars spent on gaming here; accounting for approximately seventy-one percent overall market share! New video game purchases rose by just six percent compared to last year’s figures bringing €777m revenue which is split fairly evenly between both physical & digital sales channels respectively .
