GlobalFoundries Acquires Tagore Technology’s GaN IP Portfolio to Enhance Power Management in Data Centers and Emerging Areas

GlobalFoundries buys Tagore’s GaN technology – Electronic Components

Tagore Technology’s Power Gallium Nitride (GaN) intellectual property (IP) portfolio has recently been acquired by GlobalFoundries (GF). This technology is a high-power density solution aimed at improving power management in data centers. The acquisition is expected to enhance efficiency and performance across a variety of power applications, such as in automotive and internet of things (IoT) systems.

As part of the acquisition, a team of skilled engineers from Tagore dedicated to GaN technology development will be joining GF. Jitendra Chaddah, GF’s vice president and India country head, expressed excitement over the collaboration with Tagore Technology. This partnership is expected to enhance GF’s technological capabilities, particularly in emerging areas like GaN.

Amitava Das, Tagore Technology’s co-founder and chief operating officer, highlighted the increasing demand for power-efficient semiconductors and the importance of market-leading IP in addressing power design challenges. In February 2024, GF received US$1.5 billion (S$2 billion) in direct funding under the US CHIPS and Science Act, with a portion of the investment directed towards enabling high-volume manufacturing of critical technologies like GaN. This investment is crucial for ensuring the secure production of essential chips in the future.
