Greek Swimmer Apostolos Christou Takes Home the 2024 European Championships Men’s 100 Backstroke Title

The 2024 European Championships recently came to a close, with the Men’s 100 Backstroke Final taking center stage. Thomas Ceccon from Italy held both the World Record and European Record of 51.60, set in 2022. The Championship Record stood at 52.11, set by Camille LaCourt of France in 2010.

In the final, Apostolos Christou of Greece emerged as the European Champion with a time of 52.23, ranking as the third fastest time in the world so far this season. Christou’s personal best of 52.09 was achieved during the semifinals at the 2022 World Championships, where he finished fifth with a time of 52.57.
