Helsinki Hosts IFSC 2025 Youth World Championships: A Game-Changer for Finland’s Climbing Scene

Helsinki Chosen as Venue for Climbing Youth World Championships in 2025

The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) is returning to Europe for the 2025 Youth World Championships, which will take place in Helsinki, Finland from July 28th to August 3rd. Following the successful organization of the IFSC Youth European Championships in Lead in 2023, KiipeilyAreena Ristikko – one of the largest Climbing gyms in Northern Europe – will host Lead and Speed competitions. Boulder competitions will take place at a different gym, Helsingin Kiipeilykeskus, located about 12 kilometers from the other venue.

IFSC President Marco Scolaris expressed his excitement for the event, stating that it gives a glimpse into the future of sport climbing. He praised the positive feedback received from the Youth European Championships held in Helsinki in the previous year. Scolaris is confident that the 2025 Youth World Championships will be a great success under the management of the Finnish National Federation.

Finnish National Federation President Juho Risku also shared his enthusiasm for hosting this event, calling it a game-changer for Finnish climbing. He highlighted how much progress has been made in Finland’s climbing scene in recent years and emphasized how valuable visibility this event would bring to Climbing in Finland.

The competition will feature competitors divided into two age categories: under 17 and 19, as opposed to three categories seen at previous events such as under 16, 18 and 20 years old athletes. The full calendar of IFSC Season 2025 will be released later this year.

Climbing enthusiasts can stay updated on all IFSC events by visiting their website and following them on their digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and exclusively for Chinese audiences Douyin and Weibo.
