Honoring Organ Donors at ECU Health Medical Center: A Moment to Pause and Give Life

ECU Health to host flag-raising ceremony honoring organ donors and recipients

On Wednesday morning, ECU Health Medical Center will host the “Pause to Give Life Event” to honor organ donors and recipients. The event takes place at the hospital’s flag pole located at 2100 Stantonsburg Road. Despite only 50 percent of adults in North Carolina being registered organ donors, there are currently 3,000 people in the state waiting for organ and tissue donations, with over 100,000 waiting nationwide.

The specific start time of 10:08 a.m. is symbolic, representing that one donor can potentially save eight lives. The flag-raising ceremony will be followed by a moment of silence to pay tribute to donors and their families, as well as those patiently waiting for donations and recipients who have already received the gift of life.

As part of the event, ECU Health will raise the Donate Life Flag at 10:08 a.m., followed by a moment of silence to remember those who have given and received the gift of life through organ donations. Despite it being a First Alert Weather Day and potential rain showers, ECU Health plans to proceed with the flag raising outside at the flag pole. In case of bad weather conditions, the ceremony will be moved to the hospital’s chapel.
