The debate over hybrid work has been ongoing, with some arguing that it offers the best of both worlds while others are concerned about its impact on productivity and collaboration. However, a recent study published in Nature suggests that hybrid work may be the ideal setup for workers.
The study tracked over 1,600 employees of a Chinese travel agency and found that those who worked three days in the office and two days at home showed improved job satisfaction. Additionally, the rate at which these employees quit their jobs decreased by a third, particularly among non-managerial employees, females, and those with long commutes.
Interestingly, the study found that hybrid work did not have a significant impact on workers’ performance or productivity. Managers also became more supportive of the setup after participating in the study. The authors concluded that hybrid work can lead to increased profits for companies by reducing turnover rates.
Furthermore, hybrid work offers societal benefits by reducing commuting time and providing employees with valuable amenities such as cafés, bars, gyms, and beauty salons. Businesses have already seen increased earnings due to the work-from-home trend. Overall, the study suggests that hybrid work has the potential to benefit both workers and businesses in various ways.
