Ice Cream Shop Faces Road Closure Blues: Construction on Sheridan and Hess Avenues Leaves Local Businesses Frustrated

Saginaw Business Frustrated by Lengthy Intersection Closure

A popular ice cream shop in Saginaw, Michigan, is facing frustration due to two major intersection closures that will last for months during its peak season. On Monday, March 25, construction began on the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and Hess Avenue, causing an unexpected surprise for commuters and businesses in the area.

The reconstruction project on Sheridan Avenue is not expected to be completed until Aug. 9, leaving local businesses like Hand Dipped Ice Cream on Sheridan Avenue concerned about the impact of the closure on their traffic and sales. Fred Temple, who works at the family-owned ice cream shop, expressed his frustration with the extended timeline for the project, stating that it is excessive and could have been better planned to minimize disruption to businesses in the area.

Despite the construction challenges, Temple remains optimistic about Hand Dipped Ice Cream’s future success. He encourages customers to visit the shop and enjoy their wide variety of treats including tacos, tostadas and 30 different flavors of ice cream. Temple also mentioned plans for Fourth of July fireworks and hopes that customers will still visit despite the road closure.

In addition to Sheridan and Hess Avenues closure, Gratiot Avenue (M-46) is also closed between Malzahn Street and Wheeler Street in Saginaw until Friday afternoon March 29th due to utility work. The combination of road closures is causing inconvenience for commuters and businesses in the area as they struggle to navigate around them during peak hours.
