India’s Boxing Stars Push for Olympic Glory in Paris 2024 Qualifiers

Nishant Dev advances to round of 16

In the first round of the Paris 2024 Olympic boxing qualifiers, India’s Jamwal faced a tough opponent in Jose Manuel Viafara Fory of Colombia. Despite losing the initial round, Jamwal came back with a vengeance in the third and final round, resulting in a tie on points from all five judges. After deliberation, the judges ultimately declared Fory the winner with a score of 5-0.

Later in the day, Sachin Siwach of India will compete against Frederik Jensen of Denmark in the 57kg round of 32 bout. With three quotas already secured through Lovlina Borgohain, Nikhat Zareen, and Preeti Pawar, India is hoping to add more to its representation at the Paris Games.

The selection of athletes for the Paris Games is at the discretion of National Olympic Committees, with India fielding seven men and three women for this second World Olympic Qualifier. At the Thailand meet, quotas are available in several weight categories for both men and women, giving India an opportunity to further boost its presence at the upcoming games.

Despite not securing any slots at the first World Boxing Qualification Tournament in Italy, Indian boxers continue their efforts to secure more places for Paris 2024. With each round bringing new challenges and opportunities, they remain determined to make their mark on the global stage.
