Inter has decided to alter their strategy in negotiations with Genoa regarding goalkeeper Josep Martinez. Initially, Inter was interested in acquiring both Martinez and Italy Under-21 international midfielder Gaetano Oristanio for €10m. However, with Venezuela expressing interest in signing Oristanio as part of a deal to sell USMNT player Tanner Tessmann to Inter, the two clubs have now shifted their focus to finalizing a deal for Martinez based solely on a cash transaction.
Martinez has gained attention from England as well, with both Manchester United and Bournemouth expressing interest in the 26-year-old goalkeeper. His debut season in Serie A was impressive, and he played a crucial role in helping Genoa secure promotion after joining the club on loan from RB Leipzig in 2022 before being permanently signed for €3.5m.
Inter currently views Martinez as the understudy to Switzerland international Yann Sommer, with plans for him to potentially assume the starting goalkeeper role in the future. With his market value estimated at around €15m, any potential agreement would need to meet that valuation if Inter is to secure his services.
