Italian Summer 2024 on Track to Set New Tourism Records with 29 Million Travelers

Italian travelers are on track to have a “record” summer in 2024, with over 29 million Italians planning trips between June and September. According to the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory, this number represents a significant increase from previous years, with an average per capita budget of €1,190 euros.

A study conducted by the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory in collaboration with Swg found that Italian travelers will spend an average of €750 euros per capita in July, €910 euros in August, and €760 euros in September. The traveler confidence index for Italy is at 72 on a scale of 0 to 100, indicating a positive trend with potential record-breaking numbers in the near future.

The study also revealed that more than four out of ten Italians will choose hotels, holiday villages, campsites, and resorts for their accommodations. However, 14% will opt for second homes owned by friends or relatives for their holidays. Preferences for B&Bs and short-term rentals vary based on the duration of the trip.

In terms of destinations, Italy remains a top choice for many travelers. Trentino Alto Adige is particularly popular for short and medium-term trips, followed by Tuscany, Sardinia, and Puglia for longer vacations. Italian seaside destinations like Sardinia, Puglia, Sicily, and Emilia Romagna are also popular choices.
