The theoretical course “Risk Communications and Community Engagement in Health Emergencies” is available through the Virtual Campus of Public Health and is part of PAHO’s Health Emergencies Department efforts to update and strengthen the risk communication and community engagement capacity for the preparedness, mitigation, and response to health emergencies. The curriculum of this course is based on materials developed by PAHO/WHO, other agencies of the United Nations System, and academic authors. It provides a foundational understanding of the importance of risk communication in responding to health emergencies by empowering communities.

This online course is designed for individuals working in communications and health promotion roles within health authorities at the national and local levels, as well as other organizations involved in health emergency response. However, the content is relevant and valuable to anyone working in the field of public health. The course consists of 7 modules and is self-paced, with an estimated completion time of seven hours. The webinar will be conducted in English, with French interpretation available.
