Journalists Unite to Tackle Mental Health Crisis on College Campuses: A Collaborative Effort

Journalists, parents, and pundits all have different opinions on how to tackle the mental health problems that exist on college campuses. This issue is of great concern to many people, including those who work in the media industry. Recently, Leoneda Inge spoke with three journalists involved in creating and editing stories for The Mental Health Collaborative, a project supported by funding from the Solutions Journalism Network. The project brought together nine college newsrooms in North Carolina to report on and share coverage of mental health issues affecting students at their universities.

The guests featured in the discussion were Emmy Martin, Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Tar Heel and lead editor of The Mental Health Collaborative, Rosegalie Cineus, Editor-in-Chief of The A&T Register at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and Emily Vespa, Managing Editor at Technician at NC State University. Each journalist brought their own unique perspectives and experiences to the conversation, shedding light on the importance of discussing and addressing mental health issues on college campuses. It’s clear that this topic requires attention and collaboration in order to effectively support students and promote overall wellbeing.
